Sports-Chronograph Servicing for Your TAG Heuer

From Edouard Heuer's 1860 founding to the contemporary Heuer 02 in-house chronograph, TAG Heuer's catalogue is built around the column wheel and the cam. Our London workshop strips, cleans, lubricates and regulates every Carrera, Monaco, Aquaracer and Formula 1 to manufacturer specification, signed off with a 12-month written guarantee on each completed piece.

Heuer 02Specialists

TAG Heuer's lineage as a stopwatch and motorsport chronograph specialist stretches back to Edouard Heuer in 1860, and the brand's contemporary line, from the Carrera and Monaco through the Aquaracer dive collection, continues to be defined by chronograph engineering. The in-house Heuer 02 column-wheel automatic chronograph, the legacy Calibre 16 / 17 (Valjoux base) and quartz Formula 1 references each demand their own correct service procedure.

A 1969 Monaco from the original Steve McQueen era and a contemporary Carrera on the in-house Heuer 02 both find their way onto the same workbench, the same timegrapher and the same ten-stage protocol, logged on intake, stripped, cleaned, re-oiled to manufacturer specification and regulated across positions before being returned.

What's Included

Every TAG Heuer service includes the following:

A complete TAG Heuer service at Martin Oliva is a calibre and case restoration, not a cosmetic refresh. Every timepiece moves through ten dedicated workshop stages before sign-off.

01

Pre-Service Diagnostic Trace

Every TAG Heuer begins with timegrapher analysis and a case-pressure baseline, rate, amplitude, beat error and gasket integrity are entered into the service file so final regulation has something definite to be measured against.

02

Calibre Strip to Component Level

Bridges come off in sequence and balance, escapement, mainspring barrel and gear train are removed and stored in tracked positions, every component identified through cleaning and reassembly.

03

Chronograph Module Service

On Heuer 02 and Caliber 16 chronograph references, the column wheel / cam, vertical clutch and lever assembly are inspected, cleaned and re-lubricated individually.

04

Multi-Stage Component Cleaning

Alloy-matched cleaning baths remove every trace of old lubricant, steel and brass each have their own ultrasonic cycle, plated parts are handled separately and the jewels and pivots receive individual treatment.

05

Manufacturer-Specified Re-Oiling

Re-lubrication uses the oils and greases set out by TAG Heuer for each calibre, Heuer 02, Caliber 16, Caliber 5 and the heritage Caliber 11 each have their own oiling chart, followed pivot by pivot under microscope.

06

Case & Bracelet Hand-Refinishing

Hand-refinishing returns Carrera, Monaco and Aquaracer cases to their factory profile, brushed surfaces refreshed with the original grain direction and polished bevels masked so the lugs stay sharp.

07

Crown, Tube & Pusher Sealing

Sealing components are renewed in full, crown gasket, tube washer, caseback ring and the chronograph pusher seals on Carrera Chrono and Heuer 02 references are all replaced as standard.

08

Depth & Air Pressure Certification

Pressure cycles certify the case against its original 50m-300m rating (Aquaracer Professional 300 and 1000 references run to higher specification), both dry-air and wet pressure results are entered into your service file.

09

Five-Day Position Rate Trial

Position-by-position rate is observed over a five-day trial, the regulated calibre is held in each of five orientations so that timekeeping under varying mainspring tension is documented before sign-off.

10

Twelve-Month Written Guarantee

Workmanship and any components fitted during the service are covered for 12 months in writing, the guarantee document accompanies the watch and its service file when it returns to you.

How It Works

The Service Journey

Four clear stages take your timepiece from the first enquiry to its return in fully serviced condition.

Drop a Line

Tell us the reference, calibre (if you know it) and what you have observed, chronograph reset, bezel rotation, water resistance question. An indicative figure comes back within a working day.

Bench Diagnostic

Our watchmaker logs the watch on the timegrapher and runs the case-pressure check. The written diagnostic and the firm quotation are issued before work begins.

Refurbish

The ten-stage protocol takes three to five weeks for time-only references and four to six for chronographs (Heuer 02 and Caliber 16 work longer).

Hand Back

Your TAG Heuer comes back with its diagnostic record, the certification of regulation and water-resistance verification, and the 12-month written guarantee.

Why Martin Oliva

Entrusted with TAG Heuer's Chronograph Heritage

Heuer 02 & Caliber 16

Our watchmakers have trained on TAG Heuer's chronograph calibres, the in-house Heuer 02 column-wheel, Caliber 16 (Valjoux 7750 base), Caliber Heuer 01 / 02T tourbillon and the historic Caliber 11 / 12 automatic chronograph movements.

Vintage Heuer Sensitivity

Pre-1985 Heuer-signed pieces require period-correct sourcing and respect for their original geometry. Our bench preserves the patina, dial condition and case profiles that define vintage Heuer collectibility.

Tracked Workflow

Your TAG Heuer is recorded against its valuation on intake, scheduled inside our private workshop calendar, photographed at each stage and returned by tracked insured courier or by appointment.

Common Questions

TAG Heuer Service FAQs

How often does a TAG Heuer need to be serviced?

TAG's general guidance is a full service every five years for automatic and chronograph references, and a battery change every two years for quartz pieces. Watches showing rate drift or moisture under the crystal should be inspected sooner, a short assessment at our bench will determine whether intervention is needed now.

Do you service the in-house Heuer 02 chronograph?

Yes, the Heuer 02 column-wheel integrated chronograph is part of our regular workflow, alongside the heritage Caliber 16 (Valjoux 7750 base) and Caliber 11 references. We service them to manufacturer specification including the chronograph module.

What about vintage Heuer chronographs?

Our senior bench has long experience with pre-TAG Heuer-signed pieces. Carrera 2447, Autavia 7763, Monaco 1133 and Camaro references built on Valjoux 72, 7733 and the Caliber 11 / 12 are all serviced with period-correct sourcing.

Will independent servicing affect my TAG Heuer warranty?

While a watch remains within TAG Heuer's own international warranty, manufacturer servicing is generally advisable to preserve the original guarantee. For timepieces outside that warranty, an independent service from Martin Oliva uses correct parts and follows the calibre's service sheet, and is fully covered by our own 12-month written guarantee.

Can you service or replace a Heuer Connected battery?

Yes, battery and software service for the Connected Modular 41 / 45 references is available. Battery life on these references is typically 18-24 months depending on use; we can replace and refresh the system as needed.

Can clients outside the United Kingdom send a watch to your workshop?

Absolutely. We regularly receive timepieces from clients across mainland Europe, the Gulf, North America and Asia. Contact us in advance and we will guide you through insured tracked shipping, declared values and customs documentation.
